Venue & Events

ICERE 2024 will be held in Nagoya, the capital city of Aichi prefecture, which is located in the central region of Japan with a population of 2.3 million. As the center of manufacturing in Japan, this city has a vibrant and diverse international populace. Outside of Tokyo, the City of Nagoya is also a home to some of the largest inter-religious and interfaith communities in Japan, which makes it an ideal location for this event. The area, and Nagoya in particular, has played an important role in Japanese history. Near the center of the city are two of Nagoya’s most iconic landmarks: Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Shrine.
Nagoya Castle was one of the largest castles in the country when it was built 400 years ago, and the castle town around it ultimately grew to become Japan’s fourth largest city. Although it was destroyed in WWII, the palace was later rebuilt using traditional construction materials and techniques. It recently underwent a major makeover and it is now open to the public.
Atsuta Jingu (Shrine) was originally founded nearly two millennia ago, when the sacred sword Kusanagi-no-tsurugi, one of the Imperial symbols, was enshrined. Ever since Atsuta Jingu has been specially revered by Japanese people, ranking second only to the Great Shrine of Ise. The shrine buildings were maintained by the effort of devout generals of successive times. We strongly encourage participants of this event to visit Nagoya Castle and Atsuta Shrine, if time allows.
